Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.

Coinbase Information Security is looking for a skilled Security Engineer to join the Vulnerability Response (VR) team. In this hands-on role, you will collaborate with cross-functional partners to effectively triage, prioritize, and resolve vulnerabilities across Coinbase’s systems and platforms. As a security engineer in the VR team you will contribute directly to the reduction of security risk by implementing scalable vulnerability handling mechanisms while promoting an efficient and seamless developer experience. You will run remediation campaigns, setting requirements and driving tooling development, and using a data-driven approach to influence  engineering leads and executives on program direction and priorities.

This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, highly technical environment where you’ll help shape the tooling and processes used to secure the cryptoeconomy.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Support vulnerability remediation efforts by working closely with engineering and product teams to drive consistent risk reduction.
  • Use Python, SQL, or similar tools to extract actionable insights from vulnerability data and streamline reporting processes.
  • Assist in building and maintaining VR tools to automate vulnerability handling tasks and improve program efficiency.
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to vulnerability handling SLAs and remediation timelines, working directly to resolve bottlenecks.
  • Contribute to operational metrics, and help devise strategies to meet OKRs for vulnerability response risk reduction.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for recurring vulnerabilities and propose systematic measures to mitigate risks.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • 3+ years of experience in vulnerability management, application security, or related information security domains.
  • Hands-on experience in triaging and classifying vulnerabilities, including technical understanding of relevant remediation techniques.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, or equivalent scripting/programming skills to analyze data and automate workflows.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks and best practices for vulnerability management.
  • High-level organizational skills with the ability to manage work within tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with engineering partners to resolve security risks.
  • An execution-focused mindset, capable of navigating through ambiguity and delivering results.
  • Passion for delivering meaningful impact in a fast-paced environment and contributing to the security of the cryptoeconomy.

Nice to haves:

  • You have implemented security controls in developer platforms like GitHub Enterprise and Artifactory.
  • You have worked with Golang, Docker, Airflow, and AWS or GCP.
